4 days until In Port racing 3rd January, 2009

7 days remain until the In Port race in Singapore.  The In Port race allows the teams to gain additional ports towards their overall race total.  There are two races scheduled for this coming Saturday, where the boats will be raced fully crewed with a VIP guest joining them for the ride.  Each leg of the course will be two nautical miles long, . There will be two races per day, conditions permitting, with two laps per race and a target time of 50 minutes and a total race time of two hours.

Boats prepares for In Port 2nd January, 2009

The shore teams have been working flat out over the last week as they prepare the boats to go back in the water ahead of the In Port race in just over a week’s time. Green Dragon’s shore manager Johnny Smullen filled us in, “There will be some official measurement checks for all the fleet here in Singapore. We will all be weighed and checked by the Volvo measurement team, basically this means if we are over the rule weight of 14.0T we have to adjust and if it can’t come out of the boat it has to come out of the bulb, This procedure is normal during the race as the yachts put on a bit of weight either due to repair work or sometimes just some water absorption. This is why we are always so sensitive concerning what we put on the yacht and if we really need it as we are always trying our best to keep as much weight as possible in the bulb for performance.
